What type of hair spray, if any, should I use when I straighten my hair?

I have really curly, frizzy hair, and I like to straighten it sometimes, but I don't know if I should be using some sort of spray to protect my hair from heat damage. I used some one time, but it made my hair all nasty and stiff. Any reccomendations or advice?

hair spray makes the hair gummy and sticky ,dried scalp and flaky scalp weighs the hair down.. none at all. straighten your hair and use a product that doesn't cause heat damaged hair...

instead of hair spary get a spray bottle and put water and about 3 teaspoons of salt (the stuff you put on food!) shake it up and spray away! you can do this before of after you straighten your hair

hope this helps!!

Instead of using hairspray try a straightening cream that you smooth over the hair, just avoid the roots because it can make hair greasy

Get a ceramic straightener, that kind leaves less damage. Then use a heat styling protector (Tresume and Pantene have great heat protector sprays), and slather a straightening balm all over your hair (Use about 1/2 tablespoon if you have shoulder length hair). Then blow dry or air dry your hair completely and use the the hair straightener. If your hair is still wet, the staightener can damage it. Sometimes I have flyaways, but if you put a pinch of the straightening balm over the top of your hair it stops these. And always use a deep conditioner, it will help keep your hair healthy! I have very frizzy hair, but I use this method every morning, takes me about 20 mins, but it's worth it!

I do the same thing. My hair is REALLY curly. Um, yeah. So when I straighten it, it gets kinda of frizzy or not...frizzy but puffy annnnd if that's the case then I use Garnier Fructis Smoothing Milk or something like that and it doesn't only keep it nice and...not puffy but it makes it shiny, smooth, and it smells great! Lol.

I'm not gay but I do like to take care of how my hair looks and if any women think that there is something wrong with that, please let me know because I appreciate your honesty.

The best anti frizz system is from PHYTO....but they are expensive, however, they will get the job done....

PHYTO has many products for different hair....but here is what I suggest you use.

1) Phytobrush Shampoo (Protects hair against heat from blowdrying)

2) One of Phyto's instant hydrating conditioners (the ones that you rinse off)

3) PHYTO's Relaxing balm (this is what you would use prior to blow-drying and its the best relaxing balm...it's allure's winner...its $25 for a 3.3 oz bottle...if you want more you can pay the same amount and get 7.1 oz of Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream, that works great as well.

4) After you have blow-dryed, use BioSilk Therapy and apply it to your hair

5) Use a flat iron (and of course use a heat protectant...CHI 44, Sebastian Sharper Iron Hot Tools, Nexxus Protexx are just a few...

6) Use a good flat iron (People will tell you CHI is the best, it gives great results but breaks down, and if you purchase it online the warranty is void...) so use the SEDU flat iron, its the best and if you want proof and reviews with b4 and after pics, go to folica.com and see the reviews for the 1 1/2" they have...its also allure's winner as well....if you want a more detailed breakdown of flat irons see my other answers regarding flat irons (again I'm not gay)

7) Follow through with PHYTO 7 or 9 depending of how dry your hair is as they are leave in conditioners...

8) Use the PHYTO deep conditioner masks that are to be used once a week...

Obviously the last 2 steps do not de-frizz your hair, but that is taken care long before you get to them....the last 2 steps are just to help your dry hair.

Hope it helps.

I also have your curly hair you may have used too much, if you use nexxus, that works well too,. but the best thing to do for your hair is is wash it thouroughly with a mosturizing shampoo and conditioner made for your hair then use a lot of oil! put it in neer your roots, then with help put it in in layers startiing form the very bottom and going up.. aslo start wit the hair neer your neck first. if you can do that for at least a week your hair should be health. Then you can straiten your hair, if you do straiten your hair ad oil after straitening, if your ends are dying cut them professionally, not by yourself, just remember LOTS OF OIL!

My hairdresser gave me a shampoo, conditioner, and product set to protect my hair. They make leave-in conditioner sprays that can help protect your hair.

If you have a Chi, buy the protector spray to go with it!

FOR THE STRAIGHT TO STAY IN LONGER...USE BUMBLE AND BUMBLE CLASSIC HAIR SPRAY. STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD WITHOUT THE STICKY STIFF FINISH, AND LIGHT ENOUGH THAT YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU HAVE HAIRSPRAY ON.
