What are in spray cans and hair sprays that deplete the ozone layer? explanations and links please t

It's CFC (Chlorofluorocarbons). Visit this link for a detailed explanation about CFC:

Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC).

it used to CFC's or chlorofluorocarbons, but those ar no longer used a propellants in aerosols.

they used to use CFC's as the "propellant" in spray cans. You could put more propellant and thus more paint or hair spray in the same volume can.

Changing to CO2 based propellant means you have less stuff in the can because there's less propellant. No point putting in more stuff if there's not enough propellant to force it out of the can.

CFCs Chloro-fluro-carbons. They have been banned now and the environment is already looking better. Look at the clean air act. Also watch an inconvient truth with al gore you can rent it as a DVD. That should give you more info.

CFCs have never been proven to deplete the ozone in the atmosphere because none have been found there. CFCs are around five times heavier the air. CFCs contain chlorine and we know that depletes ozone. The hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica was only found after Mt Erebus volcano erupted. It spews 1000 tons of chlorine a day into the atmosphere. You can understand why the experts won't admit to it because chlorine is used to purify our drinking water. But at least by banning CFCs it has cut out a lot of extra chlorine being released. With UV levels rising we could be using that to purify our water.Makes sence to use something that costs us nothing but can understand why not as UV levels rise and fall depending on the day and is not on call 24 hours. Nothng any more. Since the late 1980's Chloroflourocarbons have NOT been used in pressurized cans. The propellants are NOW mostly Carbon dioxide or just plain old compressed air. However, Whipped Cream in pressurized cans STILL uses Nitrous Oxide because it also adds that pleasant flavor to the whipped cream. Nitrous Oxide IS a Greenhouse Gas but not necessarily an ozone depleting gas.
